Dodd-Frank Act Timeline

In mid-June 2009, the Obama Administration released its sweeping regulatory restructuring proposal. The proposal contained a number of controversial provisions that would potentially cripple bankers’ ability to serve their customers. Most importantly, this included the creation of a Consumer Financial Protection Agency that would have vast new powers to regulate bank lending and deposit products and disclosures; examine financial firms; enforce current consumer protections on unfair or deceptive acts or practices; and enforce all fair-lending laws. The initial proposal also charged the new Agency with ensuring that “underserved consumers and communities” have access to financial services and lending.

Since its unveiling, TBA staff and member bankers have worked tirelessly with our Texas congressional delegation in an effort to show just how detrimental the creation of new financial services “Czar” would be for our recovering industry. The timeline below provides an excellent overview of actions taken on your behalf; it also shows the progress we’ve made over the course of the past few months. We’re not there yet though – please continue to follow our progress here and stay involved!
