Consumer education and financial literacy is a top priority of the Texas Bankers Foundation. The need for financial education is greater than ever, and recognition of this fact continues to gain public attention at the local, state and national levels. Bankers are experts at money management, so it's a natural fit for them to be involved in consumer education programs.
Thousands of bankers are taking the lead in communities nationwide with financial literacy programs aimed at adults, small children, high school students, senior citizens and persons with limited access to financial services, including recent immigrants and low- to moderate income residents.
Whether it is teaching children the benefits of savings, educating teenagers how to use credit wisely, instructing young adults in budgeting for and financing their first home, having programs for the unbanked or helping to protect the elderly from fraud, there are many ways Texas bankers are enhancing the life of their community.Junior Achievement
The TBA Foundation has committed to partner with the IBAT Education Foundation in an initiative with Junior Achievement of Central Texas. Both Foundations have committed funding and actively recruit bank volunteers. JA's financial literacy curriculum that is already in use and accepted by the Texas Education Agency.

American Bankers Association Education Foundation
Since 1977, the American Bankers Association and the Texas Bankers Association have worked together through a grassroots network of dedicated banker volunteers to promote financial literacy among all age groups.
Two very successful programs sponsored by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation and the Texas Bankers Foundation are Teach Children to Save and Get Smart About Credit. On National Teach Children to Save Day--April 21, 2009--thousands of bankers will connect with kids in classrooms and afterschool programs to share "real life" lessons about money. These efforts help young people take an important first step in mastering their financial ABCs and learning how to save. On Get Smart About Credit Day--Oct. 16, 2008--bankers will go into high school classrooms and college campuses across America to help them get smart about credit now, so they can make smart financial choices later.
The ABAEF has created resource kits that include program objectives, presentation guide and lesson plans, worksheet and other valuable resources. To order the Teach Children to Save kit, click here. To order the Get Smart About Credit kit, click here.
