Herschel Walker

Herschel Walker is an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness and author of Breaking Free, an account of his childhood to his remarkable athletic career. 

Walker led the University of Georgia to a national title in 1980, earned All-American honors three consecutive years in both football and track & field, set numerous NCAA and SEC records and capped a sensational college career by earning the 1982 Heisman Trophy. 

During his 15-year pro football career, Walker set the single-season, pro football rushing record; lead the NFL in rushing; and gained more total yards than anyone in professional football history. He also held a world record in the 60-yard dash, participated in the 1992 Winter Olympics 2-man U.S. bobsled team and is a fifth-degree black belt. 

Walker was also voted into the Collegiate Football Hall of Fame and in 2015 was selected as the greatest player in college football in the last half century.

Kicking off convention this year is special guest Drew Brees! Not only a legendary quarterback, but a board member for TBA member, Business First Bancshares, Inc. Brees is a welcome addition to Business First Bancshares, Inc.’s efforts to support and grow small businesses. An Austin native, he led the New Orleans Saints to a championship in 2009. This fall he will provide analysis for NBC Sports. Drew takes great pride in community service as he and his wife established the Brees Dream Foundation, which has contributed over $45,000,000 to improve the quality of life for cancer patients, and provide care, education, and opportunities for children and families in need. Drew will join us live from San Diego to talk leadership, community commitment and football!

Gen. Keith Alexander (Ret.)

Gen. Alexander is one of the foremost authorities on cybersecurity in the world.

A four-star Army general, he was previously the highest-ranked military official of USCYBERCOM, NSA/CSS, where he led these DoD agencies during the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq when attempted cyber attacks against the U.S. were on the rise.

A leader with vision and a pragmatic approach to tackling the ever-changing cyber threat landscape, Gen. Alexander built IronNet to bring this knowledge and experience to the private sector and fill in a critical gap between cyber threats and available security technology.


Charles Cooper

Commissioner, Texas Dept. of Banking

Join our “fireside chat” with Texas Department of Banking Commissioner Charles Cooper. He will discuss state bank regulatory priorities at this critical time as well as common regulator-industry priorities such as cybersecurity preparedness. Commissioner Cooper, who was appointed in 2008, has a banking career that spans more than 45 years and includes senior level positions in both the public and private sectors.

He is an active member of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors, having served as chairman in 2016. He is recognized by his peers as a leader in cybersecurity efforts and took a prominent role in investigating the extensive Equifax security breach in 2017. The Texas Department of Banking was the lead state of the multi-state examination team evaluating Equifax’s information security and cybersecurity controls.

American Bankers Association President and CEO

Elections have consequences and the legislative and regulatory impacts of last fall’s vote are quickly taking shape. American Bankers Association President and CEO Rob Nichols will provide valuable insights on what to expect from Washington as both congressional and agency leaders implement new policies impacting banks. Nichols joined ABA in August 2015 following 10 years at the helm of the Financial Services Forum, a non-partisan financial and economic policy organization. Before joining the Forum, he served in the George W. Bush administration as the assistant secretary for public affairs at the Treasury Department.


Jelena McWilliams

FDIC Chairman

Jelena McWilliams is the 21st chairman of the FDIC, nominated to the position by President Trump and confirmed by the Senate on May 24, 2018. McWilliams brings the banker perspective to her position, having served as executive vice president and chief legal officer of Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her jobs have also included serving as a securities lawyer in private practice, an attorney at the Fed and as the top Republican aide on the Senate Banking Committee.  While unable to travel at this time, Chair McWilliams has prepared a video message for Texas bankers leading into our live breakfast discussion with regional regulators.

Triplett III, senior vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and Troy L. Thornton, deputy comptroller, Southern District, OCC. This session will focus on how policy changes in Washington will be implemented by regionally-based regulators.
