Commissioner Cooper, who was appointed in 2008, has a banking career that spans more than 45 years and includes senior level positions in both the public and private sectors.

He is an active member of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors, having served as chairman in 2016. He is recognized by his peers as a leader in cybersecurity efforts and took a prominent role in investigating the extensive Equifax security breach in 2017. The Texas Department of Banking was the lead state of the multi-state examination team evaluating Equifax’s information security and cybersecurity controls.

American Bankers Association President and CEO Rob Nichols will provide valuable insights on what to expect from Washington as both congressional and agency leaders implement new policies impacting banks. Nichols joined ABA in August 2015 following 10 years at the helm of the Financial Services Forum, a non-partisan financial and economic policy organization. Before joining the Forum, he served in the George W. Bush administration as the assistant secretary for public affairs at the Treasury Department.

Jelena McWilliams is the 21st chairman of the FDIC, nominated to the position by President Trump and confirmed by the Senate on May 24, 2018. McWilliams brings the banker perspective to her position, having served as executive vice president and chief legal officer of Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her jobs have also included serving as a securities lawyer in private practice, an attorney at the Fed and as the top Republican aide on the Senate Banking Committee.  While unable to travel at this time, Chair McWilliams has prepared a video message for Texas bankers leading into our live breakfast discussion with regional regulators.
