Game, set and perfect match: A calling in the banking industry

J. Tanner Moore
EVP, Commercial Lending, Alliance Bank Central Texas

While many consider a career in the banking industry, Tanner Moore describes his profession to be more of “a calling that I enjoy every day.”

As the executive vice president and commercial loan officer at Alliance Bank Central Texas in Waco, he uses this passion to build long-lasting relationships through the production of loan and depository products and services.

The Path to Alliance Bank Central Texas

Born and raised in the small town of Clifton, Moore holds an Associate of Applied Science degree from Tyler Junior College, a Bachelor of Behavioral Science degree in Psychology from Hardin Simmons University where he played collegiate tennis and a Master of Business Administration degree from Baylor University. He is also a graduate of the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Following his undergraduate studies, Moore worked a brief stint as a United States Professional Tennis Association Certified Tennis Professional at Kingwood Country Club and San Antonio Country Club. Three years later, he decided to relocate to Waco with his wife and inadvertently went on to embark on his journey to work in the banking industry.

Moore got his start in commercial insurance sales at Synergy Bank and Financial Group, a bank-owned insurance agency, and through various opportunities became a banker.

In 2002, he joined Extraco Banks as a commercial insurance consultant and quickly fell in love with the banking industry. There, Moore held various leadership roles from assistant vice president to executive vice president within the segments of retail and consumer banking, mortgage, technology, treasury management, small business and commercial lending.

Most recently, he accepted a position with Alliance Bank Central Texas in Waco in 2019. In addition to continuing to build relationships with its patrons and the community, Moore also works alongside members of the management team to expand the bank’s strategic efforts that include the future growth of the bank.

“As bankers, we have the privilege to help people fulfill their wants, needs and reach their goals ... help businesses maneuver challenges and grow … [and] help communities develop and thrive. That’s an admirable industry and calling, if you ask me,” Moore added.

About Alliance Bank Central Texas

Founded in 2007, Alliance Bank Central Texas was established to fill a void in Waco caused by the many bank mergers, consolidations and centralizations that took place at the time. Boasting a “customers come first” attitude, this community bank prides itself on its friendly customer service, local management and full-service product line that utilizes the latest in technology.

“What differentiates our bank from others is simple. Our differentiator is our people,” said Moore. “I truly feel they’re the best in the business, which allows us to build an exceptional team and only recruit the best of the best.”

Known as a leader in the financial industry, Alliance Bank Central Texas believes in investing back into the local market and aims to provide products and services that address some of the communities’ most critical needs from home loans in low-to-moderate income areas and business financing, to name a few.

Commitment to the Industry

Moore is actively involved in both the banking industry and the community. He works closely with the American Bankers Association and Texas Bankers Association. He is currently on TBA’s Board of Directors, serves as chairman of the Bank Leadership Council and is an active member of The Future of Banking Task Force.

“I have learned that in order for a banker to truly fulfill the calling of being in this field of expertise, you have to be engaged,” said Moore. “You have to be engaged in your industry associations, your communities and your organization.”

He is actively involved in community organizations such as the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce, Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo, Partners: Friends of McLennan County, Heart of Texas Housing Finance Corporation, Hedonia Club of Waco and United Way of Waco – McLennan County.

In addition, Moore has previously served on various boards and committees including the City of Waco Convention and Visitors Bureau, Fuzzy Friends Animal Rescue, the Baylor/Waco Foundation and much more.

Outside of the Bank

Moore enjoys spending time with his wife, Brooke, and their 11-year-old twin daughters, Hadley and Kendall.

“I wouldn’t be able to ‘do what I do’ or ‘be who I am’ if it weren’t for my beautiful and loving wife, Brooke. She’s the rock and foundation upon which our family is built,” Moore stated.

His hobbies include boating, fishing, hunting and playing tennis.
