M&A Activity

The Federal Reserve Board approved Texas State Bankshares Inc.'s planned acquisition of Access Bancorp Inc. The Fed also approved the applications by Texas State Bankshares unit Texas Regional Bank to merge with Access Bancorp unit AccessBank Texas and to establish and operate branches at the locations of the main office and branches of AccessBank Texas.

Denver-based FirstSun Capital Bancorp, the holding company of Sunflower Bank NA, completed its previously announced merger with Austin-based Pioneer Bancshares Inc., effective April 1.

A later-than-expected closing and the rapidly rising interest rate environment impacted the merger math for Home BancShares Inc.'s acquisition of Happy Bancshares Inc. The changes were spurred by a delayed closing on April 1 compared to the company's original expectation of early in the first quarter and the Federal Reserve's rapid rate hike agenda.

Simmons First National Corp. announced that it has completed the acquisition of Spirit of Texas Bancshares Inc., the parent company of Spirit of Texas Bank SSB, based in Conroe, effective April 8.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas on April 21 approved Artesia, N.M.-based First Artesia Bancshares Inc.'s application to acquire El Paso-based Southwest United Bancshares Inc. and indirectly acquire its subsidiary, United Bank of El Paso del Norte.

On April 21, the Dallas Fed granted Dallas-based FNBK Holdings Inc. a waiver of application to acquire Rice-based Rice Bancshares Inc. and indirectly acquire its unit, First State Bank, in connection with the merger of First State Bank with and into Kemp-based First National Bank of Kemp, a subsidiary of FNBK Holdings.
