CRA Partners makes wishes come true with the help of community banks

Banks that sponsor CRA Partners’ flagship program, Senior Crimestoppers, do more than just earn CRA credit by helping seniors stay safe. They also enhance the quality of life for seniors in their community through the Wish Comes True grants that bank sponsorship makes possible.

Wish list items from nursing homes look much different due to the pandemic. Where in the past, more of the Wish Comes True grants were used for fun things like outings to zoos, ballparks, concerts, etc., now they are turning to the practical.

Nursing Homes have been struggling to provide PPE to their staffs as they are on the frontlines with the very population most vulnerable to COVID-19 and other viruses. Prompt access to the funding coming through the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation allowed facilities to act quickly on purchasing items like hand sanitizer dispensers as well as extra masks and gowns to ensure the safety of both their residents and staff, who continue to face the increased challenges this pandemic has brought to their doors. Meanwhile, residents struggle with loneliness and boredom while their families are barred from visits for months at a time. This has led to the creative application of Wish Comes True checks for items like iPads and tablets for video chatting with friends and family. Because of the grant provided to them by a community bank, nursing facility Methodist Homes was able to provide MP3 players and related equipment for use in their “Music & Memory” program. The adoption of robotic pets is applied in similar programs that bring smiles back to patients in Memory Care by increasing social engagement, decreasing loneliness and providing a better quality of life.
