TBA Elects 2017-18 Officers

AUSTIN, May 30, 2017 -- The membership of the Texas Bankers Association recently elected officers for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. Elected were Chairman Jay Dreibelbis, president and chief operating officer of Woodforest National Bank in Houston; Vice Chairman Gary Claxton, president and chief operating officer of Panola National Bank in Carthage; and Bobby Hoxworth, president and CEO of First National Bank Texas in Killeen. The officers’ terms are from June 1 through May 31, 2018.

Dreibelbis, born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley community of San Juan, comes from a farming background. He followed in the family’s footsteps and received a degree in ag education from Texas A&M University. He started his banking career in 1981 as a teller at Republic Bank in College Station while he was pursuing a master’s degree at A&M in animal science. Although he did not intend to become a banker, Dreibelbis was quickly bit by the banking bug and changed careers. He left Republic Bank to serve as president and CEO of First Community Bancshares, the holding company that includes First National Bank Texas and Fort Hood National Bank. He joined Woodforest National Bank in 2007.

Claxton, a native of Bonham, has worked in the banking industry for the past 38 years, beginning with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in 1979. He has been employed as a community banker in East Texas for the past 35 years and has been with Panola National Bank of Carthage since 1988. He was hired as an executive vice president and was promoted to his current title in 2005. He served as a member of the American Bankers Association’s Community Bankers Council and on the first Community Depository Institution Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Claxton earned both his BBA and MBA degrees from Texas A&M Commerce.

Hoxworth joined First National Bank Texas in 1981 and has held numerous positions with the bank during his 36-year banking career prior to being named to his current position in 2008. He is a former two-term councilmember for the City of Harker Heights. He has also served as chairman of the board of the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce, president of the Killeen-Heights Rotary Club and president of the Central Texas Fort Hood Chapter of the Association of the United States Army. He currently serves on the President’s Regional Advisory Council of Texas A&M University Central Texas. Hoxworth has a bachelor of applied science degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and an MBA from Baylor University.
