Trump nominates Miran to the Federal Reserve Board
President Trump has nominated Stephen Miran, current Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, to fill the remainder of Adriana Kugler’s term on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Kugler, a Biden appointee whose term was set to expire in January 2026, resigned early to return to academia.
During Trump’s first term, Miran served as senior advisor at the U.S. Department of the Treasury from 2020 to 2021, where he played a key role in pandemic-era economic policy, including the Paycheck Protection Program. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University and a B.A. from Boston University.
Miran has been a vocal supporter of Trump’s tariff policies and advocates lowering interest rates. His appointment is expected to be temporary, as the President has indicated he is continuing the “search for a permanent replacement” to serve a full 14-year term.
