FDIC adopts independent supervisory appeals office

1/22/2026

The FDIC board voted to establish an independent office to hear banks’ appeals of the agency’s supervisory decisions. Comptroller Jonathan Gould also said the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency will review possible changes to its own supervisory appeals framework.

The new Office of Supervisory Appeals will replace the Supervision Appeals Review Committee and will have delegated authority to consider and resolve appeals of material supervisory determinations.
