Federal Reserve updates penny policy

3/25/2026

In an update to last year’s decision to end production of the penny, the Federal Reserve announced that a subset of coin distribution locations that previously stopped fulfilling penny orders will once again begin fulfilling orders due to increased deposit activity.

The update reads:

“On March 23, a subset of coin distribution locations that previously stopped fulfilling penny orders on behalf of the Federal Reserve will begin fulfilling orders again due to increased deposit activity. This increased deposit activity has increased confidence in the ability to meet orders.”
