Federal cybersecurity office shares tips for holiday season

The Office of Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Protection (OCCIP) shared an advisory on protecting consumers against cyber and online scams during the holiday season. The advisory includes a warning about suspicious texts or emails that may falsely claim to be from financial institutions.
The OCCIP reported that cybercrime in 2023 led to losses exceeding $12.5 billion, a 22% rise compared to 2022 data. The Office warns, “With the holiday season here, cybercriminals are using multiple platforms to conduct fraudulent activities, targeting consumers during holiday shopping events.” See the full advisory here.
