Day of Service
What Is Texas Banks Community Day of Service?
Texas Banks Community Day of Service is a statewide day of community service designed to showcase the power of local banking in every corner of the Lone Star State. On any day in the month of October, bankers across Texas will roll up their sleeves to volunteer, donate, and give back—each in their own way, but all with one shared purpose: to demonstrate that community banking means community leadership.
This initiative is about more than one project or one town. It’s about collectively amplifying the good that Texas banks already do, and telling a powerful, unified story of service across the state.
Where possible, collaborate with neighboring banks. We’ve included a sample collaboration guide below that has proven effective in its creation and implementation by First Financial Bank, which organizes more than 1,000 bankers statewide on the same day!
IMPORTANT: We ask that Banks compile and share an impact report with us – editor@texasbankers.com. Please share any data points you can, such as: total volunteers, hours served, and communities reached.
How We Do It
Step 1: Secure the date:
Choose any day(s) in the month of October. Many banks prefer to organize on Columbus Day, but any day or days in October will work.
Step 2: Commit to a Local Project
Each bank selects a project that reflects their community’s needs, such as:
- Food bank volunteering
- Habitat for Humanity builds
- Financial literacy workshops at schools
- Parks cleanups
- Senior center visits or technology tutoring
- Donation drives (coats, school supplies, pet food)
Step 3: Promote Participation
Use ours (on page, below) or create your own promotional tools, such as a:
- Sample press release template
- Branded social media graphics and hashtags
- Poster templates for branches
- Email signature banners
Ideas to motivate and engage staff:
- Staff t-shirt design template – For consistency, we are encouraging NAVY BLUE as our primary unified color for any physical material. Though using the logo is more important than color choice.
- Sign-up sheets
- Bank-wide participation incentives like gift cards or other prizes
- CEO message/email template
- Organize a kick-off celebration
- Consider food and/or music to set the tone for the day
