TBA responds to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as acting CFPB director

2/03/2025

The Texas Bankers Association (TBA) responded to today’s announcement that President Donald Trump has appointed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

“The news that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will oversee CFPB ushers in a new day to end the politicization of bank regulation and enable community banks and banks of all sizes to better support the small businesses and enterprises that fuel local economies in Texas and across the U.S.,” said Chris Furlow, CEO and president of the TBA.

According to news reports, Bessent will serve as acting director until a full-time nominee is confirmed. He succeeds Rohit Chopra, who had led the agency since October 2021.
